Picture a train track's two rails. In TRACKSCHOOL, the top rail is the conventional subjects of school: science, reading, writing, history, math, and so forth. But here these subjects are streamlined to the right amount that will prepare a student for functional literacy and solid citizenship.

The bottom rail is the rail of creative thinking and activities that, when analyzed according to a rubric and the presence of a genuine learning curve, can count for time spent toward conventional subjects. Imagine a student learning how to develop a web page for a dog-walking business. In the process, the student is practicing writing and typing, experimenting with graphic design and computer tools, and using more than a bit of business math.

Trackschool mentors from the Open Latch Education Foundation train parents to recognize learning curves and to record time per the Trackschool logs. Varsity Mentors provides local and remote teen and adult mentors to help Trackschool students with motivation in both conventional and creative subjects.
